Ideas in Action

Projects & Initiatives

While we work towards securing and transforming Lymington's historic Drill Hall, we're developing initiatives that bring elements of our vision to life.

From making and repairing to engineering innovation and maritime heritage, these projects help us build connections, test ideas and demonstrate the opportunities a permanent Maritime Futures Hub could create.

  • Inspiring young people
  • Developing practical and creative skills
  • Connecting generations
  • Celebrating maritime heritage
  • Encouraging innovation and enterprise
  • Building community relationships
Reimagine — Maritime Futures Hub

Reimagine

Making, repairing and connecting communities.

A developing community initiative exploring opportunities for people of different ages to learn practical skills, share knowledge, repair, reuse and create together.

Reimagine helps us explore how inclusive community spaces and practical activities can support wellbeing, belonging and lifelong learning.

Status: In development as a community initiative — not operating from the Drill Hall.

Dynamo Challenge — Maritime Futures Hub

Dynamo Challenge

Inspiring the next generation of inventors.

An ambitious engineering and innovation challenge being developed for Lymington, combining teamwork, imagination and land-and-water adventures.

The event concept includes a multi-stage team relay and a separate amphibious engineering challenge, encouraging participants to design and build their own machines. It demonstrates how maritime heritage can inspire modern creativity, problem-solving and technical skills.

Status: In development — inaugural event proposed for 2027.

Maritime Heritage in Action — Maritime Futures Hub

RNLB Charles Cooper Henderson

Preserving the past. Inspiring the future.

We're exploring opportunities to preserve the historic Dungeness lifeboat RNLB Charles Cooper Henderson and bring her remarkable story back into public life.

Her documented history — including the Teeswood rescue of 29 July 1956 — provides opportunities for heritage preservation, education and public engagement.

Status: An emerging opportunity, not a confirmed acquisition or operational programme.
